I thought I'd get a poll going for who everybody thinks will win the Couture vs. Liddell fight on Saturday.

I'll be there ( :p ) and I'm going to look at the poll results to see who I should be betting on.

Im betting courture;
more exp.
a more complete system under his belt
better health

this is just a few reasons why I think he will win. If however liddell wins, I will mark it up to youth.

I think Couture will too, but there's a part of me that wonders if he's getting too old yet. With guys his age, eventually there's going to be that decline, and I just wonder when it's going to show itself.

And Liddell has some great takedown defense, too.

If I was betting money, I'd bet Liddel. If I had to bet my house, I'd bet on Couture.

I'm rooting for my favorite white trash kempo kickboxer, the Iceman Chuck Liddell... but seeing how Randy dominated last time, I just think Chuck's outclassed in this one. But then again you never know. Chuck's a tough and resilient fighter with tons of heart. If he added some new dimensions to his training and comes at the top of his game, maybe he'll pull the upset. I hope he does.

Master Couture is a scientist .... no doubt he has been studying Chuck and letting him get all these little victories on the stupid reality show but when it happens he'll trade a few blows with him just to not look like a chump, take him down, pin him against the fence and beat him good ...... which will be hard to see on one hand because I really like Mr. Lidell.

Ray is right.

who won last time?

the same person will win this time.

reggie1, as for liddell's takedown defense, did you actually watch the last fight? if being picked up and slammed to the canvas repeatedly is considered good takedown defense then liddell is a master.

randy will dominate.

again.

only 2 votes for Chuck?

I woudln't sell him that short guys.

Randy is good, Chuck is good, I would say that if they're both having a great day then it's a coin toss.

im still ****ed about shamrock losing to a schoolteacher cuz he slipped. then he makes a name for himself and runs back to a more "comfortable" weight... blaaaah  try safer..

Something fishy about the Shamrock fight. The guy slipped TWICE, recovering the first time--then laying there and getting pounded. If ever a fight was fixed, that was it.

When someone has been doing takedowns against the world's best competition, it's practically impossible to stop them. Liddell's only hope is to land enough strikes to end the fight. I wouldn't bet the farm on that.

I dont know about a thrown fight, but I guess it has happened before. I think he is just getting old, and not training as much as he should, or perhaps not in the right ways. I mean slipping like that is a pretty rookie move, especially to do it twice.

Couture's training is better, plus he is stronger, plus he won the last fight so he has confidence. It's still a fight and anything can happen in a fight. I will bet on randy but wouldn't be surprised if Liddel came out balls to the wall and clocks randy.

Don't know if it is true, but I read on another forum (can't recall where) that Shamrock blew out his hip almost immediately while throwing a punch (don't ask me to explain how). What we saw as slips were the result of his leg buckling during his attacks after the quick injury.

Take it for what it is, unsubstantiated internet gossip.

i would say he was overconfident but im not even sure of that. when you saw him defend strikes against the schoolteacher, you could see his defense was airtight. he was focused as hell, and i dont think sumone pushing 50 could have been any faster than he was. i think maybe it was just not his day. by the second round i was expecting him to murderate college boy. if not for the slips i dont feel he had a chance. do you remember when he dropped to the ground very quickly on his hip for the leg sub?........maybe that rumor has some plausibility.

Shamrock vs. Franklin wasn't fixed...if they fought another 50 times, Ken might win a few of those times, if he were lucky...the only thing that surprised me was that Ken came as close as he did to winning with the ankle lock...

Chuck vs. Randy, that is a tough fight to call...I gotta go with Randy...Think about how hard this fight will be for Chuck...first he has to try to keep it standing...then he has to outstrike Randy on the feet, something that both Chuck and Vitor have failed to do in the past...if it goes to the ground, Chuck might have a chance at getting a submission, I think he's a purple belt in BJJ, but his best chance I think is on the feet...

Is there a list of sports bars hosting this event anyplace? Is that even legal? My cable system doesn't get it.

Yea, I asked a few local places yesterday and they said PPV wants $17 a head for this thing so they're not doing it because who's paying $20 to get into a bar?

After reviewing the clip that Truewrestler posted here I noticed one very important factor. Endurance. Randy has at least twice as much as Chuck.

yeah I mentioned it on the thread but like Randy said at the end, he was controlling the tempo and Chuck just didn't seem to be able to keep up.

Whew! Good thing I decided to go against convential wisdom this weekend and not bet with you suckers who voted for Couture (including myself)!

That and the odds were so in favor of Couture it wasn't really worth it to bet for him. The fights were AWESOME though. If any of you are a fan of UFC, you should make it worth your while to go see a fight in person. It was most definitely worth it.
