Okay here are two more clips, thanks to puja for hosting these for me. Wasp is WHITE APE STEALS THE PEACH, not the band. (bad joke) I’m doing it about half speed, any faster and the camera blurred big time. The second one is part of the earlier clips I couldn’t put up because it was just to big. Just a pull punch drill.

Just updated the shirkers.freewebpage link. A bunch of new stuff is up including forms and basic hands and feet. I have more to put up as well. I'd like to get some two man drills and aps recorded down now that I know what I'm doing with the posting. Thanks and hope you enjoy.

This is not a new version of Beng Bu, although the name of the video (and some techniques :D) may suggest so. The performer is called Esko, and this was the second shot (thus #2).

This was shot in Tampere, Finland, in June 2005. At the time, Esko had been learning Tang Lang for 4 months. Beng Bu we all learned from our Shifu, Slawomir Milczarek, in May 2005. So, with 4 months of Tang Lang and 1 month of Beng Bu, this is Esko's attempt.

He himself recognizes a lot of the mistakes he makes and has improved since.

Nice spot, that. A couple of Kung Fu groups practice there in the summer.

Since there is interest in Pong Lai Mantis but not a lot of video other than Kevin's offerings I thought I would share a piece of my collection. I'm posting links to 2 videos of Pong Lai Mantis.

The first is Sifu John Scolaro (green shirt) and Sifu Steve Ottaviano (white shirt) performing Sup Baat Sow 2-man at Nick Scrima's tournament in 2001.

Steve is hard pressed to keep up the Sifu Scolaro but does his best to hang in there. I believe he just learned it before this performance. Good job.

The other is Master Shr Zhengzhong, also from the 2001 tourney, and it's a mix of 1st Zhai Yao and something else. Kevin told me at one time but I forgot. He should be online again next week and maybe refresh my memory.

The method is progressive and it is important that there is a definable result.

People need to know they are resilient and can be hit and take it, absorb it, deflect it, dissolve it, etc etc etc.

My first thing is to conciously choose to not back away from someone throwing strike. Move into them, kill their power and then launch your own offensive attacks while in their space and deadening their power. this is elbow range and is a very uncomfortable place to be at times.

Teach them to look at the whole body of the opponenet not to look in their yes too much and to keep concious of the telltale signs of a tactic coming. (shoulders and hips move) show them how to see this by demonstrating.

now the style i use to actively engage is to close the gap, get inside and make my damage there. No long fist, not much medium range poking about, but rather to stalk and invade the space.

this of course comes after the basics of destructions, deflections, neutralizations and dissolvments of opposing tactics.

conditioning is hugely important. an unconditioned person will collapse from conflict relatively quickly and with not a lot of effort on the attackers part.

the whole concept of "finish it in 30 seconds" is a critical error. Yes some fights last that long, but if you train for thirty seconds and you actively engage and don't pay attention to hard core conditioning, then you are in for a very rude awakening when you face the guy who can take your punches as easily as he'd take a swig of water.

Once a person is confident with teh basics of this method, the fear will melt away...but not cmopletely because no fear = stupid and stupid=broken. Be wary and be aware. Bang that into your students heads. Killing power is likely more effective than spending energy evading it. evasion tactic is ok to get into a gate, but to creat more distance in order to protect yourself is not effective. You are faced with a fight, face it, running away will only protract the fight and again, if you are not conditioned, you will lose from spending all your energy trying to stay out of reach.

Once a person is conditioning, practicing basics and understands the concept and reality of dissolving and destroying someone elses forces, they will naturally begin to exploit techniques in that framework.

I haven't really embarassed myself in a while, so I thought that I would post a video of me bumbling my way through an abbreviated version of the Black Tiger Cross Set.
I was doing the set very slowly to show the individual moves to a friend. So, as you are pointing and laughing, please realize the sloth-like movements and lack of jing were intentional. Unlike the sloth-like movements and lack of jing I usually demonstrate in forms unintentionally.
This was filmed only two months after learning the set. So be kind. :o

Also, I wouldn't translate it as "Green Swallow Sabre" because "Yanqing" is from a proper name--"Prodigal Son" Yanqing, one of the bandits in Outlaws of the Marsh. It should be translated as "Yanqing('s) Single Sabre," I think.

My shifu showed up at a Shaolin Monks demo and sent me out there to do a form.
Wasn't dressed for the occasion, but it was fun.

You can't hear it, but when I walked on after the monks you could hear scattered laughter in the crowd.

No doubt the locals had no idea a westerner could go on after the monks.
