Hey guys-
I've been out of the country for just over a year, so please excuse me if this is an old topic...

I came across this old vid, and the guy looks familiar, like I may have seen a still photo before. Can anyone identify the performer in this vid?

thanks

I think the correct name is "Little Tiger-Goose".

Sifu Lee teaches the form yesterday. And he explained that in this Form the Shadow of the movements must be performed like a little, very agile Goose.

In the "Dai Fu Ngan" or "Da Hu Yan" the Shadow is from a bigger more stronger Goose!

thanks for the help

GBL, by 'shadow' are you meaning 'ling' ?
or something else?

thanks for the additional info, SK.

so, to recap, the is a small, medium and big 'hu yan' form?

are the forms similar in content but different in how they are played?

if not, could you explain, in general terms of course, what would be the primary differenced between the sets?

I like orderly things and the concept of learning the sets in a precisely designed order as 'small, medium, big' implies is very interesting to me.

TIA

Siu Fu Ngan and Xiao Hu Yan are not the same form. The first one is small tiger and goose, the second is small tiger swallow. The techniques in the forms are different from one another, the framework is differrent.

As per our lineage, the siu fu ngan and dai fu ngan are believed to have been one whole form. Fu Ngan Kuen (Tiger Goose Fist) was too long so it was broken up for ease of teaching. Generally, the siu form is the 'better' form to learn because it has more of the major techniques and ideas that the form conveys. This particular form combines the softness and speed of the bird with the tenacity and strength of the tiger.

Siu Fu Ngan and Xiao Hu Yan is the same form! In Mandarin, Yan can be swallow or goose but in Cantonese, Ngan is goose and Yin is swallow.

So, we dont know whether the Yan in Xiao Hu Yan refers to swallow or goose? If it is swallow, then it is Siu Fu Yin and if it is goose than it is Siu Fu Ngan!
