View Full Version : world record, highest kick
David Jamieson

It's 9' 8"
that's Nine feet eight inches.
performed on Guiness book show.
the competetitors were:
an inuit guy from point hope alaska named Jesse and billy blamks younger brother Michael.
Billy Blanks hyped his brother to the extreme in a little pre montage, touting him as the highest kicker he has ever know.
"no one can jump higher than michael" he said.
and you know what, Michael can jump and kick pretty dang high!
only not as high as the inuit guy.
Here's the interesting part:
when asked how he trained for it Michael was all about the serious training in the gym, squats, plyometrics, martial arts, the works, the dude worked super hard, but still didn't prevail.
when asked how he trained for it, jesse the inuit guy said:
"I don't train for anything really, I just do it"
So, here's the question campers:
Is it heart? Or is it training that will bring your skills to a higher plain.
I believe Jesse has demonstrated that it's about heart and just doing it with the same intent as you would walk around the block.
Our own training methodologies can block us from achieving Kungfu in something imo. It is something other than method which can make a person great at something, or merely good at it.
discuss.
cheers

How 'bout genetics?

Ben's got the right of it. Just imagine how high Jesse could jump if he supplemented his training with a method meant to strengthen his hip extension and maximize his force/time output.
Supplement is the key term. Strength training is meant to be supplemental to training in whatever sport you practice. Too much will interfere with skill development.

when Billy Blanks was younger it was witnessed that he kicked a 10 foot basketball rim.

could also be that maybe jesse played inuit games as a kid and just was good at kicking the little ball that was on a string high in the air.
which in effect means, he may have been training all his life by doing.
but that's just hypothetical based on a popular inuit game
http://www.ahs.uwaterloo.ca/~museum/vexhibit/inuit/english/jump.html
check the bottom jumping game where the competitor is attempting to kick a target high above them.
also, that would rule out genetics in this case.
as for Billy kicking a bball net rim, to bad he didn't have guiness book there when he did it. :)

could be his past experience, but my guess is Jesse a - isn't telling the whole truth and b- genetics is most likely involved.

yes, he's part of a genetically mutated inuit army.

When I was in high school in Anchorage, every once in a while they'd trot out the traditional inuit sports. I remember some crazy high kicks, mostly from the native kids, who'd done that stuff a lot their whole lives.
The really weird one was the ear tug-of war, though. If I remember it accurately (it was a long time ago) they took a loop of string, put it around the left ear of each competitor, sat them down facing each other with feet pressed together against the opponent, and would try to get the other guy to let it go by pushing away with their feet and leaning backwards.
Freeee-kay!

i agree, there's probably more to it than has been revealed by jess'
to kick 9'8" does that mean the kicking leg touches the 9'8" mark?
how is this figure ascertained?
how is the height measured?
red5angel

that's right, bred to kill by jumping on you. Like 200lb carnivorous grasshoppers they wil come bouncing across the great white north. It's out plot to take over Canadia.

"how is the height measured?"
in the inuit sport, they dangle a ball at the height they're shooting for, and then they try to kick it. So, accuracy counts as well as elevation. Of course, I don't know how guinness is doing it.

another question...
what are some inuit sports and how are they played , how is high kicking involved?
Starchaser107

csn is on the ball here, no pun intended.

In Fast Runner (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0285441/), they settle arguments by taking turns hitting each other square on the jaw to see who quits first.

the kick is straight up.
it is measured by having a target on a horizontal plane and attached to a vertical ruler, like a high jump support.
the target has a nail attached to it and about 2 inches above the point of the nail is a ballon in a holder. the nail on the target has to travel up and break the baloon for the kick to be legit.
the competitor can only be within 13 feet of the target, so not much running space.
I dunno know though, according to the guy in the black helicopter with the tinfoil hat and the ray gun, it's definitely a secret army of mutated inuits.
I think they want more than just the great white north too.
I hear walmart and a reptilian overlord are involved somehow

Welcome to the Chinese martial arts, where you practice high so you can destroy low.

black dragons , mk is right,
if a person aims for 100% they usually put out 90% at best, so aim for 110%
do you just go to class and throw one roundhouse kick and call it a day?

Starchaser107,
I remember seeing an innuit festival on TV. There was a jump kicking contest where the contestants had to jump and kick a target tied to the end of a string. The contestants jumped straight up and kicked the target using a double front kick-- much like the one used in the Eagle Claw salutation except that they made contact with the ball of each foot.
Hope that answers your question.

I saw that show. I remember thinking that someone could probably do it alot higher if they wanted too. LIke anyone from an olympic athlete to a basketball player or a shaolin monk. The bst thing on that show was the dude who meditated and got into this little box for like 6 minutes holding his breath. and the guy who squirted milk from his eye. That was a cool show!
