5 elements and weapons

does anyone know what elements the 5 weapons coorespond to?

i know empty hand is earth
and i think broad sword is metal.

straight sword? maybe water
staff? could be wood??
spear? could be fire???

I've never seen weapons correspond to the 5 elements in the way you refer to.

What I heard of is how each individual weapon itself, has 5 'magical elements' to it.

i.e.
spear has 5 elemental techs to it
sword has its own 5 elements
staff has its own 5

Each one has a (wood, fire, metal, earth, water) to it.
