Sev's Edit:

Here are the rules - post vid clips only. If you have a criticism of any vid in this posted here, then state it in a different thread. This will be an ongoing thread specifically for vid clips.

This thread is one that holds a compilation of the videos posted all around this forum and more.

Everything from Wing Chun, to Taiji can be found below.

Feel free to contribute to the thread, by posting a reply with where you got it, who the video is of and a short description of the video.

If you don't have all of that information, then just leave the link with what info you do have about the clip, maybe someone here can clear up the video for everyone later :D

Thanks for the contributions.

I'm sure everyone can benefit from and enjoy these videos.

Clips from Sifu Hui...

I stole pretty much everything from his original thread. :D I kept the descriptions Sifu Hui included so everyone has some background on these clips.

Sifu Kwong Kwan Wei

http://www.mantismartialart.com/S6.wmv

"This clip is most likely his last preformance. You can understand the value of it. Interestingly, he openned with Lanjie and then move into 3 roads of Zhaiyao. He expertly connected the 2 pieces of 2 different forms during the performance which give a aura of casualness about it. I think he would be around 90 years old at the time. I just wish I could move when I am by that age. His years of experience in performing kung fu really shown through this clip."

Sifu Se Siu Fook

http://www.mantismartialart.com/S4.wmv

"For those of you who are interesting in looking into CCK TCPM Bengbu, this is it. You can see that the openning is different from other versions of Bengbu."

Shrfu Shr Zhengzhong

http://www.mantismartialart.com/S2.wmv

"This is Shrfu Shr's favorite form Erlu Zhaiyao (2nd Routine of Essential) which is not found in CCK TCPM. His performance is full of energy "jing" and great interplay between hard (gang) and soft (ru). He is an awesome awesome Tanglang Master with tons of knowledge and experience behind him. I believe he also holds GM Chiu in a very high regard."

Hi all,

This is my first post athough I have been reading this forum for a while!

I've been training WT for just over 4 years and have recently added some class videos to my web site:

http://www.mywingtsun.co.uk/videos.shtml

I took a little while deciding whether to include these videos on my site as having filmed them and looked critically at them I saw myself making a few 'mistakes'. In the end I added them in their current format as I decided it at least gives me a benchmark for the future and provides a flavour of what WT is.

I guess as we always aim for perfection regardless of how 'good' I get I will always find errors with my movements?!

How do other people feel about having included videos on their sites? Have you always found adding videos online to be beneficial? I know that watching clips of WT/WC/VT masters can be very inspiring and that in comparison my skills are extremely limited. However, as the videos are to help encourage people to join/find out about local classes I thought it was important to show us training locally rather than just having videos of the masters we aspire to be...

kind regards, Luke

I know, I know, my sifu at the time made us wear them.

John Dufresne
04-15-2004, 11:07 PM
Well I think my brother assumed that most people here would understand that Hooked swords are chinese in origin and "Wu-Shu" would have therefore been associated to it. I think possibly you are trying to make a comparison that a difference between Wushu and Kung-Fu being more traditional exist. I have studied for 40 years, I get kind of tired when americans confuse the two terms. I'm not even going into it. I get so frustrated by the lack of understanding by those who think they know the difference.

several good videos here check out the 'west coast team' sampler, well edited with excellent wushu to match

also check out the 'stuntworks' video most of these guys have gone on to do major films like X Men & I Robot, etc...

the one of the 10 year old girl Kathy is amazing considering she had only been training for a year at that time & that was four years ago she's now one of Vancouver's top forms & weapons competitors (numerous grand & all around champions).

'Trouble with Terence' is also very cool

there are also several compliation videos of the Beijing Wushu team.

also interesting is the head instructor Bruce Fontaine's Hong Kong sampler video

lots of good stuff:cool:

I'm more a wushu fan myself so I'm not too sure about what was going on with FIFA. I think they were riding the Shaolin Soccer hype at the time. My gf and some of the other girls were involved in that commercial (including Katrina Leung 8-). From my understanding, it was a stupidly easy form, with no soccer balls. Go figure.

If you are talking about the chinese female soccer player doing some type of "crouching tiger" stuff in front of american female soccer player commericials, then it was made for the woman World Cup soccer that was supposed to be held in china. It was world Soccer meets china deal. Of course, the SARS things made it impossible for China to host the World cup that year, and it was moved to the states.

that was on tv a while ago its called free running its amazing not really a martial art but interseting to use buildings as ramps and parts of tricks like that. if it was taught to secial forces teams they could cover buildings in about 2 seconds flat that would be an amazing advantage in combat. mind you you'd risk killing all your men in falls but hey they're in the forces.

A lot of airborne training in the US Army involve landing from great heights into a roll, transitioning directly into a run or crawl. The 'wall walking' and ad-hoc use of various ledges and other common urban surfaces as foot & handholds would be a great addition to urban military training.

This is just my opinion now. So don't anyone get upset if you don't agree.

I feel that was a demonstration of how a teacher can brainwash his students into beleaving in the impossible. This is the sign of a true master. A teacher that can manipulate someones thinking has reached a skill level few people will ever achieve. I think this is a good thing for the teacher. However, It is in my opinion a deception to his students and will some day be realized.:D

I posted the clip because it was one of a few that I have from the Wong tournament that is not one of our student. There were a few people here that were looking for video from the tournament.
I didn't make any comment in the post with the video because I didn't have anything positive to say about it. And so I just offered it up to you all for your viewing pleasure. As I stated above, this teacher has an advanced skill. Internal power? yes, in a way.
Kung Fu works because of this. Since the majority of people see only with there eyes and will sometimes ignor basic principles of nature, they are open to manipulation and or deception. Kung Fu works because we can suggest yin to an opponent and when he reacts to yin we yang him.
For axample: if someone were to grab your arms at the wrists. Your first reaction would be to pull away. That pull would be sensed by the opponent and he would most likely pull back (the fight). Once you feel his fight you simply go with it and redirect it.
Like driving your right fist over your left. This will cause his forearms to smash together and release his grip. In the case of the video I posted above, the students reaction to the teachers push is the result of a strong belief in their teachers words and possibly the 3 count he did just before he pushed.
This is my opinion, I certainly could be totally wrong. But I am a great believer in the laws of physics. pertaining to this video:
1. Energy is neither created or destroyed. Where did the energy come from that toppled the students.
2. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The teacher in the video wasn't rooted properly. If there was energy enough to force the students back it would also have caused the teacher to move in the opposite direction.
OK I'll shut up now.

Kung Fu works because of this. .....(snip)......... Once you feel his fight you simply go with it and redirect it.
Like driving your right fist over your left. I see a big difference between this and what the video is really showing. In the above illustration, you are just using the opponents energy against them. In the video, your comments on the law of physics are definitely appropriate. It takes all kinds to make up this wild and wacky world.

They push at the same time as he pushes into the front guy, which breaks the structure of the chain of guys. Then they all throw themselves around because they think that's what is supposed to happen. Watch the last guy in both demonstrations - he hits the deck because he think he is supposed to. Sycophants.

It doesn't matter how many people you have in the chain - they are actually all pushing in both directions: pushing forwards but also trying to resist the guy behind them from knocking them over. The total force at the end of the chain is not great - it can be rooted. Especially when they aren't even pushing that hard until he counts 1,2,3 - by which point he has already diverted the front person away from him so the force doesn't go near him.

It's just another embarrassing display from an internal practitioner.

That clip was the end of a dvd about the wooden dummy and its applications. What is shown are the applications of certain wooden dummy sections, that's why what you see is prearranged. I'm getting better at digitizing.

Below in my sig are two more clips.

One with me doing another section of Old sage monkey done on a powdered, slippery concrete floor thanks to the forward vision of the promoter(sarcasm).

The other is a highlight clip. I have a 10 meg limit on file size so this is the best I can manage right now.

Both clips are best viewed when opened directly in Windows media player. Right click the link, select "Copy link location", open media player . Ctrl U, brings up the link menu, paste, enter. enjoy.

Also there is a limit to bandwidth so don't be surprised if you can't get it till the next month.

the opening is exactly the same as hunggar tiger-crane.
I was gonna yell "tiger-crane", but then I realized that the rest of the form is different.

are the two styles related somehow?

David Jamieson
11-27-2004, 04:20 PM
well gfx, not "exactly" the same.

for instance, in the Tiger and Crane opening, it moves directly from the upper Pak sao to a kiu sao, then to a spear hand, then to a dragon palm.

But are the two styles related? I have heard and read my former sifus words and they are essentially this (i'll paraphrase):

It is safe to say that Black tiger is a form of the Hung Fist.

My former sifu always knew the two styles were related somehow. He wasn't sure which came first or which used which, but it is generally known that the Black Tiger styles from southern shaolin kungfu and the Hung Kuen are related.

As I have practiced and studied over the years I have found more similarities than differences. Overall, techniques and principles fit well with each other across both styles.

I would also note, I've seen a clip of tak wah eng performing a fu jao pai set that has again almost the same opening and then the rest changes following that sequence. His (tak's) opening is also done in sei ping ma as opposed to yee gee kim yeung ma as seen in the clip i gave.

To make it even more complicated, I also think wing chun has many shared pieces with the Hung Fist and Black tiger.

btw and fwiw, that vid clip is approximately 1/10th of the overall form segment wise.

If you guys are posting vids and u have the option of various compression player formats please please use quicktime. I beg you

Realplayer is total garbage.
sound garbled
picture useless
waaaaaaaay too much quality is lost in the compression and when it comes to martial arts some things as we all know can sometimes be very fast. Film speed already can't pick up on some stuff, so anything fast and realplayer chops it.

Windows media player is ok.
Slightly better quality.
I don't know if you have noticed but with both realplayer and Windows Media Player you have to reload the whole clip to playit again. Even if it isn't streamed. incredibly annoying especially if you want to start it say in the middle somewhere.

Quicktime is the best.
Highest picture quality retained after compression.
Sound is great (if its done right).
Works on all platforms with the least bugs.
Makes my eyes and ears happy.:)

If you have no clue what i'm babbling about and just want to watch kung-fu clips thats cool, i'm just tryin to help.

Peace

David Jamieson
12-30-2004, 05:33 AM
you work for apple or something? :p

i think that most people with the best intentions don't fully grasp the ideas behind compression technology.

for instance, divX is far superior to quicktime, but dl-ing players and going through the rigmarole of using them...well...anyway, you know what I'm saying. :D

Fei jiao
12-31-2004, 02:44 AM
That's probably part of the point he was trying to make; divX is handled easily by QuickTime, whereas Windows Media player requires...Windows media player, and Real Player requires Real Player. Quick Time can handle pretty much everything else.

yes, i am sure it's donna summer after listening to that song 8 billion times throughout the late seventies as the radio stations did their best to overkill it.

i believe there was even a rumour that Donna had several orgasms that were recorded into the song. :p

beyonce, like many other hip hop artists likely ripped off the mix n'dub due to a lack of being able to write a riff for themselves. :D

Kung Lek...

Please, pleeeease, do not call Beyonce Knowles a "Hip-hop artist". She is in no way, shape or form hip-hop. Hip-hop is a culture, and its music is based off of 4 main elements, DJaying, Emceeing/Rapping, Breakdancing/Pop-Lockin', and Graffiti/Burning. Anyway though, I mean no disrespect, it's just that I'm very passionate about that subject.
Oh, and yes, more clips. :D

Kung Lek, like I HAD STATED BEFORE, I meant no disrespect man, you seem like an open-minded guy, I got nuthin' against ya. :)

Hip-hop culture isn't about ho's and street thuggin' though. It's MTV videos and mainstream radio garbage that gives middle America that idea, and that does aggravate me a little. Hip-hop culture is not 50 cent saying he's a "P-I-M-P" or ***got ass chingy saying he likes it "Right Thurr". That's just pop-rap. Like I said before, garbage. Real Hip-hop has always carried the elements (as stated before)with skillful lyricism and/or a powerful social message. Sadly, the mainstream trend (that makes lots of $$$ for big labels) is to have a rapper who claims he's gangsta and pimp at the same time, even though they can't write OR freestyle for ****. :( Hip-hop is about peace, love and unity; it's about stopping the violence, not increasing it. Anyway, I'm sure you get the point by now, I've yapped enough, haha. :)

Some good hip-hop artists today...
Immortal Technique, DJ-JS1, Vast Aire, C-Rayz Walz, Nas, Saigon, Sly Boogy, Talib Kweli, Common, KRS-One, Royce 5'9", Murs, Crooked I, Planet Asia, Scarface, Brother Ali, Wordsworth, Beastie Boys, K-OS

well, to most of the world, perception is reality. what is true, is not true, what is wrong, is not wrong.

:p
