Am I the only one who is so tired of hearing "stories" about how "deadly" some master was in unverifiable street fights and being told that just no one knows because they were so "secret" and only a select few learned the "real stuff"?

When you think about it though, who knows if someone has been in a street fight? I could get on Saturday night and say I got in a fight while clubbing in Deep Ellum because I hit on a girl and some drunken boyfriend came at me, etc. It can't be verified.
And Royce would choke out those deadly techniques out.

back to the topic, yeah, we're all sick of them, but it doesn't matter. the smArt ones take claims like that with a grain of salt, and the sheep will continued to be sheep.

Either I've been missing/avoiding/not seeing them lately or there haven't been too many in these parts in a while, how come this comes up again lkfmdc? But yeah, they suck, so many similarities in all the stories.

It all depends on whose telling the story.
And in my experience 9.9 outta 10 times, its the people who don't have the story straight in the first place, that feel they need to preach it.

rtb, yeah, well, if I did have a fake i.d., which I don't cause those are wrong and illegal, but if I did have one, I would never use it to drink.

You'd just use them for giving fake aliases to the hookers you frequent.

Yes, because we all know hookers want to know a client's first and last name, date of birth, daytime and evening phone and home address.

What I find odd is that apparently back in the rooftop fightiong days of hong kong no one was ever defeated. I always read "never was defeated" in descriptions of old masters. Who the hell was getting beat in these fights then if these guys weren't ?!

Not a fighting related story, but a stupid one none the less, a certain system claims their grandmaster lived in a two story house with no doors because you jumped in and out the second story window... a few of the dumber american students went to China one year and went to the city the "grandmaster" was supposed to have lived in, found his "house" and it was a shack, didn't even have a second story :)

the article is good, but as self promoting for San shou as any creation myth of "traditional kungfu" -
"San Shou competitions are an important development because they allow kicks, punches and full body throws and are perhaps the best way of promoting realistic fighting skills"
Isn't this a common argument amongst many martial arts instructors about their art? Is this "realistic fighting" or "sport fighting"?
"In fact, in recent interviews with instructors and officials in Beijing they stressed the importance of demonstrating which skills and techniques were practical. "
What instructors? San Shou instructors?
