nian shou chuan/nim sau kuen.
He just saw this listed by I think Northern Shaolin in an old posting on Luohan sets and praying mantis?
Anyhow I found that we have this form listed on the forms at my sifu's school (leung shum) he said he has never taught it out because he feels that it is such a basic partner set and we already have 5 other partner hand sets.
We have quite a few forms no longer taught as My sifu feels that if we did learn all these Jing Wu based sets we would lose interest in learning any eagle claw sets (he's right we have over 20 eagle claw hadn forms alone).
I'll see if I can atleast get him to teach me and my partner the set just for posterity. Oh how I like Video tapes.

I not surprise since all three of these styles were at Jing Mo Association and sharing ideas and sets between masters was a very common form of reconizing another's skill back then.

Hi Ngok Fei,
Do you know what other Chin Woo sets Sifu Shum knows that he has not taught out ? Does he have a forms listing from his early days ?
Cheers

hey what's up. Now you've got me doing it.....
I have his 1st forms list from 1974 but it doesn't list any other real sets besides forms such as:
Chin Woo Basic 10
Sup Lok Da (still teaches)
Nim Sau Kuen
Yee Long Kuen (still teaches)
Say Lok Kuen (Gini Lau teaches the eagle clawed version)
Chop Choy
Sui Fu Ngan (eagle clawed)( still teaches)
the only weapon set he doesn't teach is the:
Gam Gong Seung Do (Jing Gan double double sabers) He said its pretty much like our Day Tong Seung Do but has a dive roll and a back hand spring.
oh also he doesn teach some weapon partner sets:
Empy hands vs double sabers
kwando vs 2 spears (have seen 1/2 of it but the seniors have forgotten the other 1/2
Kwando vs 4 spears - novelty set created by my sigung
sabre and 2 section vs spear ( i believe Sek Kin knew this set)
some other weapon partner sets which we still have on tape but no one is learning them to my knowledge.

Hi Ngok Fei,
I would love to see your Yee Long Kuen (Erlang Quan). Could you describe the first few moves past the Eagle Claw opening ?
Its too bad some of the forms are disappearing.
Talk to you soon.

there isn't any eagle claw opening. The "Northern" hand sets have always retained their original openings only weapon sets have addopted a modfied ec opening.
1. 2 palms circle up to the chest then press down to waist
2. 2 palms cross in front of chest (x block) and cut palms to sides
3. left palm push palm block to the right, right palm drops to side.
4. knee down in squat stance,
5. stand up left knee up in hanging/1 leg stance while pivoting and facing left. Left palm becomes a hook down to left side, right palm overhead palm block (we call a flashing palm).
6. step down into left forward bow stance both palms brush block to left side hip.
7. Skip forward to a left forward bow then turn to the opposite direction into a right forward bow. Bring both fist to right hip.
8. Turn back to left forward bow as you execute a left forearm block and puch forward with the right arm. Then a left forward pucnh.
9. Again turn back to a right forward bow and execute a right arm forward punch.
we should do some video exchange. have to replace aVCR 1st, 2 year old jammed it up. Hope to convert all my tapes to DVD when the machine cost comes down.

Hi Ngok Fei,
Sorry for the delay.
Yours sounds like it has some major similarities.
Section 5, 6, 7, and maybe 8 could be similar except its hard to visualize. You have some variations and I have some different sections too. Perhaps we should examine each others forms and compare.
I hope you get your new VCR working. How do you transfer to DVD, don't we need to buy a software or hardware ?
What form is your Son on now, Bung Bo ? My Son is 7 and I need to really train him, I have been somewhat lazy on this.
I would really like to learn more about the 1930's curriculum of Chin Woo. I am convinced that much of my system may come from there. My Sigung is in a photo wearing a white Chin Woo shirt with black trim and frog buttons and felt boots perhaps in 1932 era. He is holding a sword in a ferocious stance.
Do you think that Sifu Leung Shum could be contacted in regards to asking about the old Chin Woo curriculum. Now my search focuses on old Chin Woo old-timers who may know something specifically about my system or about my Sigung Dea Bak Do.
The Siu Fu Ngan set you mentioned, is that the same as Little Tiger Swallow ? I saw your other posting.
Talk to you soon.
Cheers
