I was thinking, in the distant future, I would like to take Hung Gar as my striking art. Do you think this would contridict my SC? Does anyone have any clips?

Hey CPA,
I don't see any reason why hung gar would contradict your SC. The only striking art that tend to contradict SC is TKD as taught in mcdojo.
BTW, good luck on the fujian white crane thing. Free video clip is really hard to find. I know because I tried. If you really want to see it, prepare to pay $$.

I have two videos on VHS of 14th&15th white crane, but I doubt its real crane. Are you in Hung Gar? What are some of the fighting aspects of it? I know that a lot of the blocks are also strikes, but thats about the extent of my knowledge.

No, I have not been taught hung gar formally, I have been studying some of its techniques.
Let's use the 10 killing hands as an example.

Here's another article

Look over some of the application pics. Examine for yourself how hard would it be to transition from these striking technique to a throwing technique or just use throwing technique as a follow-up to end the fight.
Basically, hung gar has a lot of short hand (close range strikes), and in that range it does not take much to transition into one of shuai jiao throw which you already know.

Thanx much, WM.
That was very helpful and sparked my interest in Hung Ga. I hope there is some in the Bay area so I can sit in on a class and see more.

omarthefish cut his teeth in hung gar there. He can tell you more about the school. But, I haven't seen him around this forum of late.
I don't know CA too well, but judging rom the zip code, Sunnyvale don't seem to be too far from SF. You can also look into Sifu Wing Lam's place.

HaSayFu and Gene Ching studied there. Gene Ching studied in the Northern Shaolin program. HaSayFu did the hung gar program.

you doubt it's "real" crane?
Looks like someone has been brainwashed by KFO, either that or you're looking for an art that "everyone" accepts

anyway, me being a Hung stylist now, I think it should go with your SC real well
one of the best HG pages, IMO, is here: www.hungkuen.net
SD would have served you well, but I guess you think it's fake now as well
I hope you're not that easy to persuade, if so, you'll have a long, hard way in the MA, even HG has lineage "fights"

Nah man, I'm not dissing SD. If you like, cool. Its not for me. And yes, I do doubt it is white crane. I've seen just a tad of real Fukien White Crane, and It looks a lot different from the SD version of WC. Besides, it pulls the Karate Kid stance 3 times in 14th wc.
Thanx for the Hung Ga info tho, CMD.

Hey CPA - Which White Crane did you observe? I've been doing research into WC as well, very interesting stuff.
There are different types, such as Calling Crane, Feeding Crane, Flying Crane, Ancestor Crane. Each one has there own set of forms, and some have forms in common. I am in touch with Master Ruan Dong's group in Fukien (Calling White Crane) and may be heading over there to learn a form or two next year.
Interestingly enough, I have a Chinese book showing various White Crane forms, and I got it somewhat translated from a Chinese lady at my work. I said it was interesting because the front of the book shows Mater Dong in the "karate kid" stance you were referring to :D
If you want, I can pass it on to Shaolin-do so he can let you look at it. I want it back though! :)

Hell, yeah. I have a library of books as well. If you'd like to borrow one just ask, friend. Where are you going to learn some crane? Lemme say your lucky, I've been searching for years for WC and have nothing but dead-ends and let downs.
your also in Ninjustu, right? Do you know the steathy aspect of it or the fighting aspect. get back at me...
