If you were going to fight with your taijiquan, what stance would you use?
I was wondering about this tonight while watching some guy box on the heavybag at the gym.

Here's a good example of tai chi. (http://www.ilram.com/M_taichimasters_temp.html)

I think, although I'm a beginner so not sure, a basic boxing-type stance would be what people in my system would use, for mobility.
Liokault has done the full contact so he's be able to tell you for sure.

If you chose any stance you impose your will too soon and give warning.
Just stand.

"If you chose any stance you impose your will too soon and give warning."
Only in the movies...or if you are caught off guard by a sucker punch. In a hands up fight you need to have your hands up! Cover the upper and middle gate with your hands and close the lower gate with your legs. Weight should be low (sunk) but not too low that you give up mobility. The distribution depends on how you plan to generate power and your fighting strategy.
