the same reason why you're allowed to post against it.
admittedly, the assumptions and spin put on martial arts is uneducated, fearful and facist at best, but censorship just because of disagreement? not going to happen, don't want it to happen.

Or - how important are the spiritual/religous/philosophical backgrounds in studying CMA?

Sounds like one very committed way of insult.
This is so classical "We are the way, your not.Believe me or end up burned down".Not the smallest try-out to go out and study or even take a look at what one is talking about.
I hope these people are a) just joking (weird performance anyway) it´s a bit unlikely though b) they don´t affect any more less stable ones to spread senseless information...otherwise,I could not care less.

And yep,
you can be an orthodox christian or whatever and practice as much martial arts as you want.
Many such do and are happy about it,MA is to lead you towards a healthy way of living,no matter what your personal religion is.
Then buddhism,as an example, which highly affected CMA,does also teach respect towards all methods of creating peace...shame on us demons!

It is my experience that most self rightious christians would be the last people on earth to voluntarily wash the feet of someone who wears sandals.

I think these people are probably under the assumption that, were christ to return, he would come conveniently labelled like a file cabinet in an ISO-9000 compliant workplace.

CHRIST: Hey, I came back.

SELF RIGHTIOUS CHRISTIAN #1: Check his label.

[SELF RIGHTIOUS CHRISTIAN #2 probes around JC's loin clothe]

CHRIST: Hey!

SELF RIGHTIOUS CHRISTIAN #2: Oh my god, he's not wearing any underwear!

SELF RIGHTIOUS CHRISTIAN #1: Geez, he smells like he's been in the desert for weeks. Someone get this disgusting hippy out of here!

CHRIST: But I've got a message!

SELF RIGHTIOUS CHRISTIAN #2: Police!

Please note that this is not a general refference to christians, but to a few morons who I've defined here as self rightious.

JESUS[yelling back to the SELF RIGHTIOUS CHRISTIANS]: Lao tzu had it right!

I e-mailed them a heavily plagarized letter that was sent to Dr. Laura Schlessinger, some radio personality. Anyhoo I sent it to them to see what they think.

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show [I changed it to website], and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the ****sexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to follow them.

a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians.

Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than ****sexuality. I don't agree.

Can you settle this?

g) Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die?

i) I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot.

Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev.24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

"I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE, NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER BUT BY ME" (John 14:6).

Thanks for the post. I enjoyed reading this and may print it and file it away for entertainment purposes later.

The bottom line is – things are what they seem to this individual because he is uneducated in the Martial Arts and supporting his Biblical point of view. He is attempting to convince or ‘convert’ Martial Artists and their parents not to join ‘Karate’ school because it is ‘Satanic’ or evil.

As far as the scripture quote above, my interpretation is that Jesus did not mean this as most Christians believe. I think an argument can be made that by Jesus saying “I am the way…..no one comes to the Father but by me” he is suggesting by the way He DOES things, by the way He lives his life, by the way He behaves, by the way He prays, etc. Not by directly speaking to Him.

Well, that’s my uneducated take on it anyway.

Peace,
Godzilla

Thier scorn is in no way limited to Martial Arts, but to all religions, even Christianity in the way of other denominations. "Under the disguise of Entertainment, chickens and other creatures are sacrificed on stage today while the same rhythm is beaten out to frenzied audiences who are encouraged to cut themselves with knives and razor blades and to commit vicious cries such as rape, mugging and even murder. "

Apparently they have seen the late G. G. Allen in concert!

GreyMystik! You have given me hours of entertainment with that link!

"Dad, YOU may not hear the words, but your children can! Under the influence of mind expanding drugs, they can even hear words that are recorded backwards! "

"Sacrifices live chickens on stage by biting off their heads. "

Actually, Alice cooper had a chicken thrown at him from the crowd, when he threw it back it was torn to pieces, must have been the music. Everyone knows Ozzy was the one who bit the heads of birds, doves to be exact.....
Queen is slang for ****sexual!!!

"Destroy IT before IT destroys YOU!"

What exactly are they trying to say here? I think if this message were put on christian music albums backwards it would reach more people.

"Be ye separate and touch not the unclean thing"

I almost take this personally.........

"Stay away from discos, Satan is out to destroy you (I Peter 5:8). "

Does it REALLY say stay away from discos in the bible? Anyone?

i dont think i have ever seen a more gross missunderstanding of martial arts or christianity in all my life. i am a christian and proud to say it, but its people like this that give all relegions a bad name by interprating the bible in a way to suit only themselves. maby the term should be manipulating.
the person writing this artical is clearly running on 10% speculation and 90% pure terror of anything that they dont understand. the statements made clearly show that this person has no understanding of what those bible verses actualy mean and is manipulating them to judge people who intimidate them. if they were true christians or of any relegion for that matter then isnt judgement something that is left to god? arent they supposed to reach out to people and be careing and loving and NON judgemental???
i completly understand why there are so many people out there that hate christians because of things like this.. people who use the name of god to lash out at anything that they dont understand using random bible verses completly out of context to support their case. if they had only taken time to truely research martial arts OR the bible for that matter maby they would realise that not everything is a so called " ABOMINATION"... it is so easy and non time consuming to look into the bible, misinterperate it, and find a reason not to like something.. and that gives them an excuse to say that anything they dont like is wrong. and that all your life should be about is sitting in your little confined world and damming everything that isnt so called righteous.
thease are the same people who condem every person that does anything wrong and banishes them from their church... what kind of crap is that.. if they are so afraid that something like martial arts will corrupt them then they realy need to look inside themselves and try to get a better understanding of what being a christian realy means, and research the things that they dont understand. kind of like cross training, not only do we train diffenent MA styles so we can be more fluent in the language of martial arts, but also to learn how to defent or counter against other styles.. if they had dipped into the true martial arts community even the slightist bit they would see that what is stated in that artical is completely wrong..
maby looking at the bible a little bit more they would see the use of military training, look at the story of samson and how he killed 1000 men with the jawbone of an ass...or david killing goliath with a sling. do they realy think that david had never picked up a sling before in his life? of corse he did.. he trained with it.. he used it every day. it was part of his life defending his flock of sheep. is he dammed to hell because he didnt turn the other cheek? the storys of the people of isreal when god would lead them in to battle.. do they realy think that thease people were just simple farmers that just stood there and picked their noses while god did all the work?? and did they go to hell because they trained to fight??

anyway i am sorry i am ranting but thease kinds of things give REAL christians and martial artists a bad name. i wish people would look inside themselves and to god for understanding before using his name to JUDGE!!

thanx

Although I'm not totaly sure what your talking about, it reminds me of something. When Jesus and the disciples would walk around and teach there were many time that the disciples would judge and be harsh if they thought someone was bad but Jesus would lovingly teach the disciples what is correct and show them how to be merciful. I guess most christians are like the disciples, we have a lot of learning to do even if they don't realize it.

An outspoken christian , well outspoken to this degree (ie the website), is usually a scared, and misguided person doing what they would like to think is righteous. I had a dear friend of mine who gave up Taiji and his Buddhist faith and took to some fundamentalist Christian church, and completely became an imposter. He rennounced everything I did and told me he was praying for God to intervene and make me see the errors of my ways; said that people need to read the bible as their only book except textbooks etc, so no more science fiction, fiction, novels etc c'os there were too many satanic undertones in modern day literature; said that me doing Qi gong was harmful to me and my friends and family in fact anyone I came into contact with c'os if the energy cultivated was not from God then of course it had to be from the Cloven hoof character. The list goes on... unfortunately I lost contact with him not suprisingly enough, and saw him sometime after and he looked like some kind of neurotic. He was all full of fear and tried to instill that fear through projection into others and what do you know! he became a lonely guy without any friends apart from all the other fundamentalists he hung about with.

Don't remember that one in the gospels. ;)

I do agree though that things are indeed up to us. This is why is saddens me when people think only of themselves, and never really put effort into searching for what truly is the "right" way to do something. As I mentioned before that takes a WHOLE lot of education, experience, and understanding. Perhaps lots don't have those to a high degree I don't know.

Without going into my own little "agnostic Buddhist/Taoist/Christian" type philo on "what" truly "God" might be..... I can say this.

Disbelieving that there is anything out there because of the suffering and evil in the world is quite understandable, but the words of someone who thinks "God" "should" have things different. That very well might be.

What do YOU do though to make things better? Do you go out of your way to help strangers? Do you try your best to concentrate on compassion, humility, and discipline in your life? Do you avoid certain things, entertainment, viewpoints that are not centered on those three things? Do you try to really think about what is right and what is wrong? In relative terms? In universal terms?

If you don't do any of these things, then your words are somewhat hypocritical. Because you'd be asking "God" to do the very things that you're not doing.

:) Not really meant for you, just this type of statement in general.

i find it sad that people blame all the horrible things that are happening in our world on god. they say he isnt there or he lets it all happen because he has some sick obcession with seeing people suffer..but usualy its just a cop out because they dont want to look at themselves or be told that they may not be living a good life.
weather it be christian, taoist, buddist or what have you the same princapals apply. be loving and kind, honest, hard working, understanding, humble, compassionate, and nonjudgemental...
how can anyone blame thease terrible things that happen on god, or say that he dosent exist because if he did there wouldnt be so much suffering... do you think he likes to see us suffer?

i dont know if any of you believe in god but if you do you should know that the greatest gift anyone can give you is your freedom(ie) free will. as humans we are given a choice of what we are going to do with our lives there are many ways it can go. we can choose to follow the teachings of the bible, we can choose to not follow anything and only think of ourselves. we can turn into a mass murder and kill 100 people, or be a doctor and save 1000 lives. but every thing we do, because we have the gift of (free will), effects everyone else in the world. because i am a christian if i get killed by a serial killer does that mean that god dosent exist because he allowed it to happen? or if i survive and other non christians don't does that mean he is playing favorites? no its all a product of free will! my chioces durning my life not only effect me but the people i love and the people i come in contact with. god has left it in our hands and its our job to make something of it, but other peoples choices effect us also, and thats just part of the deal. so why would i not want to be loveing , kind , careing and understanding, and not just think of me me me?
there are some of us who feel deep within us that god exists, and are searching for the answers. i am not saying that because i believe in god i have all the answers or that i dont mess up, to be honest i mess up as much as the next guy, but my life is a constant learning experiance, and i am always striving to better myself and my relationship with god.
it is much easier to not believe in anything at all... to be honest since becomming a christian i have known more suffering than ever before, but i will endure it and be thankfull for what i have, and my happyness will come from knowing that i am doing what i believe to be right...

quick response because I posted at Willow Sword's argument too. Then I have to get off this darn internet.

I think one of the hardest things for people to deal with with the notion of free will is the apparent "randomness" of "unjust" violence. For instance, take a look at a plane the crashes because of mechanical failures, and all the people inside die on impact. Loved ones are left behind, families are broken up, mothers lose children, etc. Now obviously it was the passenger's "free will" to board the plane, but still I don't think this sits right with human beings. Human beings feel a lot of compassion to be honest (even though sometimes it can appear they don't ). To us, if there truly was a compassionate, caring, and loving God that absolutely hated to see us suffer, he (as we as mere humans would) would most probably try to intervene and stop the suffering if it be unjust.

Nobody argues that the person who gets drunk and drives off a bridge somewhat got what was coming to him. He made the choice, he must deal with the consequences for his own actions.

However, if an innocent person is targeted by a violent criminal, held hostage, tortured, humiliated, made to fear for their lives, etc. this doesn't sit well with us in the realm of what is "fair" even though free will be bestowed upon us.
For many people, if "we" were "God" and we did indeed have the power to stop unjust suffering that's probably what we would do. So then for "God" not to somewhat seems distant from our own human morality, and to US as HUMANS that makes "God" seem less "compassionate" then a mere human. And many can't accept that.

Now that doesn't mean that's what's going on, we obviously can only see life and morality, "fairness" just from our own little human potential. But that potential is important in its own right too. At least we would hope it would be.

To me, "free will" isn't a good enough answer for why freak accidents happen, innocent people who do live properly suffer and die tragically, etc.

Even though I do not agree with the "blame God" response for the world's evil (I blame people quite a bit more) I DO understand where it is coming from, and a lot of time it's very heartfelt too...

After God flooded the earth – He was ****ed how things were turning out, Adam, Eve and everyone who sprung from them ultimately disappointed God – so he washed the earth clean to start again. Noah was the best there was. God told him to build the Ark and save his family and all of the animals. So we all started again – from Noah, his children, his children after that, etc., until now. But God promised Noah that he would never erase everything on Earth ever again – it was a difficult decision. If mankind ended ever again, it would not be by the hand of God but by the hand of man. That’s why God does not stop war, the bombing of the Twin Towers, etc.

Besides, the Prophesies tell us the world will end around the year 3800. Earth will be hit by an asteroid. Meanwhile we all have the pleasure of living thru the Third World War, which has already started. The third Antichrist is from the Middle East – the first was Mussolini, the second Hitler.

Shortly after the Millennium, Mubas will die. Hold the word Mubas in a mirror and see who Nostradamus was talking about. Mubas is not the third Antichrist – he comes later. This war’s got legs – we’re supposedly in this around 27 years.

Peace,
Godzilla

My email back to them:

Hello. I read what you wrote about martial arts on your website and it is one of the most ignorant things I have ever read.

You are brainwashed and pathetic.

Ryu - Here's a page on a great site that discusses some Christian traditions with interesting ideas on the Problem of Evil (tm) which aren't well known: http://www.utm.edu/research/iep/g/gnostic.htm

Oh my gosh! A Kung Fu forum that has arrived at the topic of the Gnostics!!! Boys, the rabbit hole get very deep from here so I suggest you guys take a breath.

The Gnostic phenomenon gets into all sort of things such as the first documenting of apostolic succession in the very early Church. You will have to read a lot of Patristic history to understand any of this stuff in relation to the events and social order of the day in which they were written and acted upon.

Basically, the Gostics (Latin 'Gnosis' - English 'Knowledge') were dudes who had secret 'knowledge' that the Apostles did not tell anybody but them(...which means they ccould say anything they wanted now...).

C'mon, back to Kung Fu please.
