Hi, can someone define the following for me? I've read about "ding sao," "tok sao," and "kau sao," but I don't know what they are. I figure I've probably seen/done all of them i just don't know what they're called.
Thanks.

im not sure if your on the second form yet but if you are you'll definatly of done ding sau and tok sau, there the pats where just after the first set of turns and your in a double lan sau position you kind of flick your arms out and putting your elbows in, then you turn them into two tan saus and the next part is a tok sau, its an upward moving tan sau. i guess like the last type of tan sau in the first form. im not even going to try to describe a kau sau cos im not sure where in the form it is done and its quite hard to describe (not that i did a goods job with the other two)
hope it helps a bit, im sure someone else will give you some better descriptions.

OK unless anyone knows better (I am sure they do).
Isn't ding sau the wrist upwards motion from SLT
If you got the email I sent you then Tok Sau is as the previous post.
I've seen kau sau defined as hooking or circling hand or sweep off hand - done with the palm a bit like a pak sao to control a punch moving it from the centre - one use would be if your arm was already out and it controlled an attack as it came back towards you.

Here (http://www.wingchunonline.com/art_hands/lan_sao_sm.gif), and here (http://www.kamonwingchun.com/images/Lan%20Sao.jpg) are a couple of interpretations of the general lan sao theme.

Ironfist,
Just to clarify - when I said Tok sau is as the previous post - I meant as in what Ish said - in the email I was mixing it up with something else.

Iron- Lan Sao is my new favorite technique. I applied it quite well in sparring with WaterDragon a couple weeks ago...It is kind of a general trapping/jamming movement. In this case, I was using Lan after Pak sao-ing his punch, or sometimes proactively covering his arms, similar to inside Lop sao but w/out the grab. If you know Chum Kil, you'll know what to do with once your Lan Sao is established. I had heard that Lan was a good move to get you inside, I finally understand why now.

So, it's a downward movement, right? I think I know what it is.
It's like, if you bong sao lop da someone so that your lop sao is with your left hand and your punch is with your right hand, and then from there you could lan sao with the right hand (to further trap the arm) and punch with the left hand, correct?

you could use it that way, but from a punch you'll probly find it easier and more effective to jut or lap.
Its not necessarily a downward movement, its called a bar arm and i think its more just holing the position rather than giving specific energy
