hey everyone,

just wanted to get some feedback here. My uncle is one hell of a carpenter and hes gonna build me a traditional style dummy. its gonna be made of solid oak or if im lucky the wood he makes his bow and arrows from. it has a sweet looking grain, and it turns a gorgeous golden tan as it ages. it will be on a freestanding frame and will cost about half of what they go for from all the other places ive seen. it is NOT for sale now but he said its easier to make two at the same time rather than one at a time. i just wanted to know how many people were interested in something like that. ill try to use the poll here so bear with me. thanks for the input

jeremy

btw, just wanted to add that the only thing he wont be making by hand will be the bolts on the frame. he will be going out into the pennsylvania wilds to get the wood. (what an uncle!)

Just curious, how is it easier to make two at a time?

lol, i wish i knew. I think it may be because it will take some time to make, and selling two would better compensate all that time. but i didnt ask, i was too excited to speak...

That makes sense. That's really cool he's doing that for you.

Maybe because he'll have enough trunk for two bodies? Might as well make another one at the same time as long as you have the material. Otherwise you'd have to store a big piece of trunk somewhere until someone wanted another dummy...

I think Starbuck is correct.

Timber's usually cheaper in bulk, plus you can make better use of standard sale lengths.

Also, if you are hiring tools, better do multiple jobs on one day than rehire a day at a time for each job.

Economies of scale.

I already have a dummy.

actually he wont be buying any timber at all, hes gonna chop down the tree himself. but i agree with starbuck that he probably doesnt want to waste half a tree or something. thanks alot for the input everyone, i guess ill tell him to go ahead and make a second one. if all else fails i guess theres ebay :p i cant wait though....its gonna be one hell of a dummy.
